Sources of Divorce Support and Advice

When going through a divorce, people will often seek support and advice from friends, family, counselors, and members of their church. Getting support during this time is very common and important, since going through a divorce can be a very difficult experience.

Receiving continued support and advice throughout the processing of a divorce can help an individual through the process. Many times, even after the divorce is complete, people will continue to seek advice to help them in the process of moving forward and adjusting to the many changes they will now face with regards to their new living arrangements, financial status, and in helping children to adjust.  This emotional support is crucial in the healing process, but should not be considered “legal advice”, unless it is received from a family law attorney.

Getting emotional support from friends and family can be very helpful for people as getting a divorce; however, should you need legal advice, this should be obtained from a family law attorney versus people who are “supporting” you through this process, so that you can receive the correct advice needed to help you make well informed decisions as you navigate through the divorce process.

Dr. Phil wrote a blog giving some basic divorce advice about “Life after Divorce” where he spoke to things to do if you are having trouble letting go and also how to jump start your life once you have accepted it. This article might be very helpful for people going through divorce and needing some advice on acceptance and moving forward.
